The Memorial Mass of Fr. Norman Walling, SJ
The Society of Jesus in HK will conduct a memorial mass for our beloved Fr. Norman Walling at 7pm, St. Ignatius’ Chapel of Wah Yan College, Kowloon, on Sept 7 (Monday), 2015. Please come and remember him together, asking the Lord to grant His faithful servant eternal reward and joy.
Fr. Norman Walling went peacefully to the Lord on August 28, 2015 at the Cardinal Tien Hospital, Taipei, at 1:58 a.m.
Fr. Walling was born in Beresford, California, U.S.A., on Mar. 26, 1929. He entered the Society in Los Gatos, California, on Aug. 14, 1947, was ordained to the priesthood on Mar. 19, 1961 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Hsinchu, and professed the last vows on Aug. 15, 1964 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Hsinchu.
He had stayed in HK few times for a significant number of years. The latest one was in Xavier House, Cheung Chau from 2009 to 2014, serving as a retreat guide and spiritual director. He was gentle, kind, wise and humorous. And he was gifted with learning languages, speaking fluently Mandarin, Cantonese & Taiwanese. Those who know him will certainly miss him and treasure his presence in our life.
萬立民神父追思彌撒
香港耶穌會團體將於9月7日(星期一)，下午七時於九龍華仁中學的聖依納爵小堂，為我們親愛的萬立民神父(Fr. Norman Walling, S.J.)舉行追思彌撒。歡迎大家蒞臨，一齊緬懷這位一生忠誠的傳教士，並為他永恆的安息祈禱。
萬立民神父於 1929年3月26日在美國加州 Beresford 誕生。於 1947年聖母升天前夕加入耶穌會。1957年到新竹學習台語及教授英語。在菲律賓碧瑤念神學後，1961年3月19日在新竹市晉鐸。1963年在馬尼拉完成第三年後在新竹矢發末願。曾在耶穌會內擔任新竹團體理家、院長、第三年(即會士卒試)的導師、省佐、中國福傳主任代表、靈修輔導等職務。也曾任新竹本堂神父、青年工人導師，並長期擔任避靜神師等。在這些職務期間，曾在香港作過多年的停留。最近一次是在2009年至2014年在香港長洲思維靜院，負責避靜工作。到2014年八月才移居彰化靜山。萬立民神父於2015年8月28日凌晨於新北市新店耕莘醫院安息主懷。
萬神父對中國人有一份深厚的情懷，因著他的天份，很有心去學習我們的語言。由於在中國不同地方傳教及服務，他說出流利的普通話、廣東話及台語。連我們中國人都要羨慕。他個性雖然內向，但幽默風趣，常令別人，尤其是避靜者感到溫和親切，容易接近及分享。
他的離世，令我們認識他的人都會深深記念及緬懷他。願主賜給這位忠心的僕人永恆的賞報及福樂！
